I Can Swim in the Deep End

Stay away from the edge … Don’t lean over the side of the pool… Careful … Don’t fall into the deep end … You will sink right under and drown!

Sound familiar? While no child under the age of five years should EVER be left unattended at a swimming pool, these statements that we make as parents communicate FEAR to our children. We love our children and the majority of parents are not complacent when it comes to pool safety.

Sometimes a near drowning accident is unavoidable–our attention gets distracted by a baby or a younger sibling we are watching; sometimes a pool is too crowded and a child may slip from the shallow end into the deep. Most times, children are just curious…they are attracted to the water and most likely, they will get into the water. Sometimes a bad consequence can result because the child is unaware of the water’s depth.

At Sea Star Swim School, we believe that no child under the age of five is “drown proof”. We are also aware that no matter how much we warn our young children about the edge of the pool, the depth of the water, or where they should play, accidents do happen.

Sea Star Swim School wants to float your child to new levels of confidence in the water. Whether boating on the lake, swimming in a back yard pool or enjoying summer fun at the neighborhood swim club, we want our students to obtain personal satisfaction and be able to celebrate the accomplishment…I CAN SWIM IN THE DEEP END!!

Our core value is swimming for survival…so when the unexpected happens, your child will be equipped with a skill set that enables a safe response. In our five and under population, we will focus on just that…swimming for survival! We also want to reward our students who accomplish the following learned goals. Each child who participates will be able to:

  • Jump from the edge or from the starting block into the 9 foot end of our pool.
  • Demonstrate the ability to initiate three consecutive breaths—calmly and comfortably.
  • Swim to the edge of the pool and climb out safely.

Each month, we will test students who would like to attempt this goal. Students will be awarded a certificate of achievement. Additionally, we will take their photo and put it on the window at the Sea Star Office. Children who accomplish the goal may also show their certificate to the Pro Shop staff, and they will be entitled to purchase the $10 commemorative t-shirt that goes along with the completion of the task. Only children who have earned the honor can purchase the shirt.

Our community is on the water, where we love our water sports. Will your child be ready? Jump right in and take the challenge to prove that…

I CAN SWIM IN THE DEEP END!!!!!
