Gym and Swim

Is your child looking for a new fitness challenge, or is he/she trying to maintain a high level of fitness between sports seasons?

What’s the answer? Gym and Swim at Sea Star!

What’s Gym and Swim? It’s fitness. It’s activity. Most of all, it’s SUPER FUN!

Designed for kids ages 6 to 14, Gym and Swim combines the best of both worlds, dryland and aquatic, for 40 minutes of “Gym” and 30 minutes of “Swim”. In the GYM, participants learn how to properly and effectively use exercise equipment, such as dumbbells, medicine balls, and machines; they also perform circuit training, and play all kinds of fitness oriented games that are designed to boost levels of aerobic fitness.

Next comes “Swim”, where kids work on learning strokes, swimming for fitness, and purposeful play, like an occasional round of “Sharks and Minnows”.

Parents, the best part is for you! Your child will receive a fitness evaluation each quarter, which is based on the President’s Council on Physical Fitness guidelines, and you will be sent a progress report. No more guessing about whether or not it’s working; you’ll have proof!

Gym and Swim Directors Amy Caldwell and Susan Flowers know how to motivate and inspire kids to achieve new levels of excellence. Both are credentialed elementary school teachers, so they understand what makes kids tick. Amy is a former elementary school PE teacher; she is also a certified personal trainer with a Masters degree in Physical Education. Susan teaches first grade at Madison Creek Elementary School; she is a seasoned triathlete, and her keen desire to help kids get fit and stay fit is her guiding passion. Together, this team of professionals will make your child enthusiastic about fitness, with the goal of being fit for a lifetime!

Gym and Swim meets on Monday evenings, from 6:20-7:30 p.m. Fees for the class are paid on a monthly basis and are based on how many classes per week your child attends. New students are welcomed! To attend class, your child should wear a t-shirt and shorts over a swimsuit, and proper athletic shoes and bring a water bottle. No “Heelys” or Crocs allowed! Other types of training equipment, such as fins, may be required as your child progresses; these will be available for purchase at our Pro Shop.
