New for Holiday Quarter 2010: Preschool and Adult Fitness Classes!
You asked; we answered! We are happy to introduce some new classes that will be available during Holiday Quarter 2010:
For the kids: Babies in Bloom and Toddlers in Training:
These 30 minute classes focus on the child’s cognitive and physical development. In the Babies class, the parent will be an integral part of the class as the teacher gives instruction and guidance; in the Toddler class, the toddlers will work independently during instruction time. In both classes, children will learn through developmentally appropriate games, dance and gymnastics, and each week, they will be involved with 5 different stations:
- Creep track (where they will verbalize colors, objects, numbers, shapes, etc. incorporating movement)
- Locomotor movement and balance
- Gymnastics and parachute
- Manipulative skills (throw, catch, kick, volley, strike)
- Fine motor skills and body part identification
All of the skills the children will be using will help them prepare to meet the expectations of kindergarten. Also, many of the exercises in which they will participate are based on “Brain Gym”, which states that “our bodies are very much a part of all our learning, and learning is not an isolated ‘brain’ function. Every nerve and cell is a network contributing to our intelligence and our learning capability.” This class will help to use both the brain and the body as an integral part.
Babies in Bloom classes meet on Wednesday morning or Thursday morning from 9:30 – 10:00 a.m. Cost of the 9 week session is $115.
For adults, we have Surf and Turf and Boot Camp. Surf and Turf is not a great meal at a restaurant; it’s a fun filled workout that combines the best of a dry land and a pool workout. water You will spend 30 minutes working on strength training, cardio, and core work, then we’ll jump in the water for 30 minutes of a coached pool workout. Not a great swimmer? No problem–activities will be modified to meet ALL ability levels!
Surf and Turf classes will meet on Tuesday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. or on Thursday from 10:30-11:30 a.m.
Just beginning a fitness routine or looking for a challenging, but fun class? Then try our Boot Camp! Boot Camp is a one hour class that combines a variety of fitness activities that could range from cardio, kickboxing, weight training, and plyometrics, just to name a few. It’s a great starting place for someone who wants to lose weight or tone up those muscles. It can also be a self-paced workout, so don’t let the name of the class fool you!
Boot Camp will meet on Tuesdays from 10:30-11:30 or on Fridays from 6:30 – 7:30 a.m.
Cost for Surf and Turf and Boot Camp sessions for Holiday Quarter 2010 (October 11-December 18):
- 1 day per week – $90
- 2 days per week – $162
- 3 days per week – $216
- Drop in fee–$10 per class
All of these classes will be taught by Amy Caldwell. If your kids swim for MTSC or if you swim for MTSC Masters, you know Amy is our dry land coach. She also directs our Gym and Swim program. Amy has a Master’s Degree in Physical Education and she is an A.C.E. Certified Personal Trainer. Before she left the classroom to raise her 2 and 4 year old, she taught in public schools for 13 years. She combines her expertise in fitness and her love of children to make these classes a fun, learning environment for ALL ages!
